Search page

A search page allows visitors to search your content by keyword, tags, or advanced criteria including, price, sale status, and custom fields.  A search page may appear like so:



You can activate the following search types: Simple search field (Text search), Advanced search fields and Tags.  These can be turned on in the admin section > your search page > edit icon > Search settings. 




Simple search field
A simple search allows visitors to search across galleries, blogs and bibliogaphy entries with terms that match on your artwork description, medium, and other text fields.

Advanced search fields
An advanced search allows visitors to search across galleries by combining criteria such as price, date, medium, and custom fields that you create.  Advanced searches will only apply to image galleries.

Tags
A tag search allows visitors to search across galleries, blogs and bibliogaphy entries based on one or more tags you have added.  

Visitor defined vs. Predefined

The Visitor defined search option allows visitors to search your site in a traditional way -- by entering criteria, and clicking the Search button.  However, search pages can also be created to display the results of a search you have set up in the admin section.  In this way, the Predefined search option can, for example, show works that you have for sale across the whole site, like so: 
 

Searched entities

By default, visitors can only seach across galleries.  But you can turn on the option to also search across Bibliography entries and Blog posts.  This can be done in the admin section > search page you have created > edit icon > Search settings > under Visitor defined or Predefined, check any of the following: Gallery images, Bibliography entries, Blog posts.
 

Search fields

The Search fields section allows you to set the fields that are visible both as Advanced search criteria, and are displayed below the image.  For example, if you set the Price field to Hidden, it will not display in the results and not be an Advanced search criterion.

Results layout

The search results are, by default, displayed in a single tall column with a link to the associated gallery above the result.  Change the Images per row setting from 1 to something greater to display the results in a grid format.

Can I turn off the breadcrumb links that go back to the search result gallery?
Yes, this can be done in the Results layout section by unchecking Show drill down navigation.

Can visitors search content in hidden galleries?
No.  Results will only appear from galleries that the visitor is permitted to view.

How can I add custom search fields for gallery images?
Go to the admin section > image gallery (with the images) > Image fields > Add field...  Find out more on custom image fields here.

Can visitors purchase or inquire about items from the search page?
Yes, if the artwork is for sale in the gallery, or can be inquired about in the gallery, that option will exist in the search results as well.
