Traffic restrictions

You can restrict visitors to your website in the admin section > More options (upper right) > Traffic stats > Options section.

Restriction types

The restriction types are as follows:

Restrict networks
Click on the network name within any stats log row, and it will be added to the list for restriction.

Restrict countries
Select the countries you wish to restrict.

Restrict all traffic
Allow Icompendium to apply proprietary filtering based on the visitor's network and other factors.  (More on this below)

Restriction levels

Visitors can be restricted within the Restrict countries, Restrict networks, and Restrict all traffic sections, as follows:

Do nothing
This permits all traffic.

Captcha if suspicious
Visitors are quietly checked in the background, and if they fail the check they are then asked to check an "I am not a robot" checkbox.

Block if suspicious
Visitors are quietly checked in the background, and if they fail the check they are blocked.  This option is generally not recommended since it risks blocking actual visitors.

Block always
This will completely block the visitor from your site.  Use this option with caution.

Restrict all traffic

Checking Restrict all traffic, and then setting For all traffic to Captcha if suspicious is the best way to reduce bots and crawlers.  This allows Icompendium to control the filtering rules for you.  However, bots and crawlers can only be determined with around 90% accuracy, so some real visitors will likely be prompted to check "I am not a robot" as well.

Within Restrict all traffic you can also ban specific IP addresses and referrers.  These are older options that are still available but will likely be less effective reducing bots and crawlers than simply checking Restrict all traffic and setting For all traffic to Captcha if suspicious.

IP addresses to ban
If you feel a particular IP address is improperly accessing your site, you can enter it in the More options > Site traffic > Options > Restrict all traffic > IP addresses to ban section.  Enter one IP address per line, like so:

123.123.123.123
123.123.123.124

NOTE: If you accidentally include your own IP address here it will prevent you from accessing your site.

Referrers to ban
This can be one way to filter out referrer spam -- which are fake page visits designed to drive traffic to a spam site that is listed as a referrer.  These can be added in the admin section > More options > Site traffic > Options > Restrict all traffic > Referrers to ban.

Enter one referrer per line, like so:

spam-website-one.com
spam-website-two.com
